Fitsum AyeleIssue 17: Spring 2022
Fitsum Ayele completed his honors thesis in Spring 2022. Previous research has shown that mindfulness reduces job burnout. His thesis explored the hypothesis that positive reappraisal mediates that relationship. Using a sample of 325 MTurk workers, Fitsum showed that, for all five facets of mindfulness, positive reappraisal partially or fully mediates the mindfulness-burnout relationship. This suggests that people who are experiencing job burnout can use whichever mindfulness skills are most appealing to them: All of them have the potential to be helpful. Fitsum presented his honors research at the Spring 2022 Research Symposium sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research, where he received the Research and Creative Honors Thesis Presentation award for giving the best honors thesis presentation. Congratulations, Fitsum!
