Kim Wins WPA Service Award

by Kimberly A. Barchard Issue 6: June 2018

A plaque from the Western Psychological Association presenting the Meritorious Service Reward to Kimberly Barchard in April 2018.I was elected to the Board of the Western Psychological Association in 2015 and was recently honored with a WPA Meritorious Service Award. As the Representative-at-Large, my primary responsibility was to chair the Council of Representatives. During my three years on the Board, I increased the size of the Council from 116 to 227, so that we have faculty representatives from institutions all around the Western region. I also increased the number of members attending the Council meeting during the convention, from 30 in 2015 to 95 in 2018. I solicited feedback from the Council, championed Council suggestions to the Board, and worked to implement these suggestions to make them a regular part of WPA. As a Board member, I also updated the website, helped increase the size of the Student Council, assisted in revising the WPA bylaws, and helped put on three WPA conventions. It was a tremendously valuable experience. At the 2018 convention, I was honored with a WPA Meritorious Service Award.
