Cameron PereiraIssue 22: Fall 2023
It was Fall 2022. Cameron was about to graduate from UNLV with a bachelors in psychology. Unfortunately, he had no idea what the process of applying to graduate school looked like. Furthermore, like many of us, Cameron was experiencing imposter syndrome. However, Cameron is an eager and determined learner. Therefore, Cameron joined the Interactive Measurement Group in hopes of preparing for graduate school. In the last year, Cameron has done just that – and more.
Over the last four semesters, Cameron has assumed multiple leadership roles, including workshop presenter, poster leader, and Monday chair. In addition to developing his leadership and teaching skills, these roles have stretched his technical and time-management skills, but, just as important, taught him when to say no. These roles have also helped Cameron improve his writing, organization, software, and statistics skills – which he is excited to continue developing in graduate school.
When he is not serving as a valuable asset to the IMG, Cameron volunteers in another UNLV research lab, one that focuses on adolescent child trauma. Cameron also works two jobs, one of which is at a plant nursery where he applies the knowledge of climate change that he acquired in our lab. Even with all his responsibilities, Cameron finds the time to do something he loves – read. With his never-ending quest for learning and new experiences, we know that Cameron will excel in graduate school and beyond.
