Field Experience: Building My Skills and Strengthening My Applications

While gaining field experience at a Title 1 elementary school, Gemma worked one-on-one with children and helped the school social worker develop whole-school programming. These experiences helped her learn more about being a social worker and strengthened her graduate school applications.

Before committing yourself to graduate school, you should learn about the career you are considering in order to decide if it is a good fit. One way to do so is to conduct information interviews. In her article, Gemma shares six steps for conducting these interviews, along with her experiences and insights from doing interviews about social work.
