Fitsum AyeleIssue 18: Summer 2022

In Spring 2022, Fitsum Ayele was admitted into the Diversifying I-O Psychology (DIP) scholars program sponsored by the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP). The program is a pathway initiative meant to help underrepresented students gain admission into competitive I-O Masters and PhD programs. Paired with an I-O professor for the 10-week program, Fitsum worked to find underexplored topics within the research area of training motivation – to find something he could contribute to the already large literature. After reading many papers, he and his mentor decided to study whether well-being predicts trainees’ motivation to learn. The DIP program culminated in a poster presentation at the 2022 SIOP conference in Seattle, where Fitsum presented their preliminary work and connected with several additional I-O psychologists.
